It seems Frontier Airlines needs to retrain their pilots on what is correct policy and how to deal with matters that they find unacceptable. IMHO, it is not acceptable to make anyone feel like they are the problem. There must some way to handle this type of issue with respect to each person's feelings. I know how I would feel if I was told I couldn't fly because of my health problems and made to face the scrutiny of not only police officers but everyone else onboard the aircraft.

Lets look at the facts

Sue the airlines and confiscate the 'pilot license' of the dolt up front.

This airline pilot went way to far on this.

Meanwhile, I would think a Discrimination charge against the airline and the pilot would be the staring point for his "outrageous behavior."

Sounds like the pilot had no clue. I wonder why he's still employed?

Steve Cowell, an aviation safety consultant, told 7NEWS the pilot should have called airline managers for advice on handling the issue."It was completely inappropriate of this captain to escalate ... the situation to the level that he did by calling the police," Cowell said. "It really tells me that this captain did not know how to utilize all the resources available to him."

ESPECIALLY if the regulations were subject to interpretation as the article stated.

One pilot 'lets' him fly but this one does not?

    That makes no sense.

Even worse is that he called the police. He REALLY called the police? Crazy. He needs a talking to.

Talking to my ass!!! He needs some serious retraining imo. Maybe it is unclear about whether it is a safety issue but if he wasn't sure then he should have asked for someone in a position to know. And he should never have called police on someone who was no threat to him or anyone else on that damn plane.

This incident makes me so freakin mad because I have serious disabilities and health problems and I can't believe this stupid pilot would treat someone with visible HIGHLY noticible disabilities like some kind of unimportant POS or threat. If he would remove the stick from his ass and pretend for one freaking second to be a compassionate human being he might have realized that he was causing this man and his family emotional pain and trauma.

I'm sorry /rant off. I'm taking another break before I totally lose it.

    Exactly.

I had a job like this once in tech support. We were judged on our ability to handle a call which is no big deal. But because the "rules" were so subjective and each grading was done by different people we could not catch a break. One person would grade "speediness of response" while another person took into account our familiarity with the module we were trying to help with. Another person was a stickler with our closing that had to include a few components they looked for while one person would detract excellence if we put a client on hold for whatever reason. Meantime our managers are telling us only 1 thing: Help the client.

Inconsistency in these gradings and on top of never knowing what particular calls we were being graded on made it quite stressful when our raises and ranks were mattering. I ended up quitting with this being one last straw and management always saying they were reworking that bad system. Found out soon after they killed it altogether. They streamlined the variables into givens and now as long as X, Y, Z are performed and client is happy with the outcome, that's the bar of excellence now - What the client thinks.

Maybe the airline has similar issues and they'd be better served streamlining the expectations and rules and killing the subjective interpretation.

The pilot could have been scared of losing his job if he took off.

I'm so glad you said that. Once again, I have jumped to a superficial judgement without thinking it through. He could have been, and that would explain why he needed/wanted documentation. There are always at least two sides to every story, and I really appreciate that you pointed out a potential 'other side'. Thanks!

Take care and have a lovley evening!

    Ah thanks Dowser. Thank you!

I have been in unpopular positions before that seemed 180* different than they really were. It's no fun being hanged for a crime of immorality when I was so innocent in whatever act I took that rare was the person who would understand.

The media feeds off this I have been increasingly noticing: Peoples' emotions to the exclusion of any other advantage point. It keeps their readership.

I agree the pilot may well have been scared of being fired except in my experience pilots aren't fired that often or easily. And if that was the case he still should have asked for someone in authority to come sort it out not call the police and treat this man and his family like they weren't worthy of respect and consideration. IMHO you don't call the police on someone because you think they are too ill or disabled or fat or thin nor do you draw unwanted attention to someone who is disabled or ill or whatever to fly. You try to handle your problem with the utmost respect and consideration and privacy for the person.

I know the media blows things out of proportion but taking that into consideration if the pilot hadn't made a big to-do and involved police officers and everything this wouldn't be news.

Yeah Virginia. It seems the most remedial understanding of his position would have had him calling for clarification rather than calling the cops.

Saw this story on the news. Really irked me. He didn't deserve the humiliation and there were better ways to resolve the issue......if there really was an issue. Didn't seem to be an issue on the other flight, with a different pilot.

So Frontier Air doesn't feel that his rights were effected!! Should they not have to provide facilities for people of all disabilities, shapes and sizes. Is this not discrimination at it's very best? I would say that his human right to be treated free and fairly was certainly effected.
